ROSEMOUNT – Rep. Anna Wills, R-Rosemount, issued the following statement regarding news today that Oak Ridge Elementary School of Leadership and Environmental and Health Studies schools in District 196 are receiving $28,650 in school safety grant funding. Last session, the legislature approved and Governor Dayton signed into law $25 million in capital investment funds that schools could apply for to make physical safety improvements. The Minnesota Department of Education announced the grant allocations in a news release this afternoon.
"One of my top priorities this past session was to provide our school districts with funds for making our schools safer," said Rep. Wills. "I am glad to see schools in our school district taking advantage of the school safety grants the legislature made available in 2018. I will continue to support efforts to make school safety a top priority."
The legislature approved an additional $25 million for a variety of school safety initiatives as part of the supplemental budget bill, but those funds were vetoed by Governor Dayton.
