Thursday, September 13, 2018

ST. PAUL – State Rep. Steve Green, R-Fosston, announces the Minnesota Public Facilities Authority recently approved $2.68 million in state grant funding for the city of Waubun to rehabilitate its sewer and replace its watermain distribution system.

The sewer project has been awarded a grant of $1.48 million from the state’s Water Infrastructure Fund. The watermain project was approved for a $600,000 grant from the Water Infrastructure Fund and a $600,000 grant from the Department of Employment and Economic Development’s Small Cities Development Program.

Both projects also are receiving funding from federal sources. The U.S. Department of Agriculture approved a grant of $1.05 million and a loan of $1.81 million from the Office of Rural Development for the sewer project. The U.S. Department of Agriculture approved a grant of $1.28 million and a loan of $1.29 million from the Office of Rural Development.

“Congratulations to Waubun for these successful grant applications,” Green said. “These grants will be helpful by allowing the city to improve its infrastructure and the favorable terms will protect taxpayers. It can be difficult for smaller communities to afford infrastructure projects and that is why our state funds these PFA programs.”

The PFA provides financing and technical assistance to help communities build and maintain infrastructure that protects public health and the environment and promotes economic growth. Since inception in 1987, the PFA has financed $4.5 billion in public infrastructure projects in communities throughout Minnesota.
