Green: More time to comment on proposed nitrogen rule

Tuesday, July 31, 2018

FOSSTON – Rep. Steve Green, R-Fosston, urges local citizens to take advantage of an extended window for submitting written comments on proposed regulatory changes for the use of nitrogen fertilizer in Minnesota.

The submission period has been extended to Aug. 15, approximately two weeks later than originally scheduled.

“People still have strong concerns over this issue, so it would be in their best interest to file comments if they have not already done so,” Green said. “From buffer strips to ditch mowing and now nitrogen application, this governor and his administration have fallen short in terms of citizen participation in the regulatory process. I hope people in our area take advantage of the extra time to weigh in on the impacts new nitrogen regulations may bring so we can set an agreeable plan for the future.”

Comments regarding the Groundwater Protection Rule can be made at www.mda.state.mn.us/gwprhearingnotice. Details regarding the proposed changes also may be found at the site.
