Legislative Update (July 20, 2018)

Friday, July 20, 2018

Dear Neighbors,

I hope you and your family have had a great summer so far. I have really enjoyed traveling around our district to attend events and meet and interact with members of our community. Being out and about in the community always reminds me of the countless reasons why Olmsted County is such a great place to call home!

New Laws

Although the governor’s vetoes unfortunately reduced the number of new laws that were enacted this year, a number of new laws that passed during the 2018 session took effect on July 1. Click here for more information on some of these new laws. Additionally, slated to take effect on August 1 are a handful of other new laws. For information on these new laws, click here.

Regarding new laws, I am looking forward to the ground breaking for the Chester Woods State Trail from Eyota to Rochester as well as the ground breaking for the four lane expansion of Highway 14. Both of these projects were made possible by the funding that I worked to secure in the legislature’s bonding bill this year, and both will be tremendously beneficial to our area. On a related note, I am looking forward to the upcoming ribbon cutting for the enhancements and renovations that have taken place at the Rochester International Airport. These projects have been vital in promoting southeastern Minnesota’s economic prosperity and I was proud to advocate for funding for them in St. Paul.

Please Contact Me

Thank you for your visits, calls, and emails during the legislative session and summer. In order to best represent our district in the legislature, it is crucial that I hear our community’s differing views on the bills and issues I am faced with. Again, thank you for reaching out and sharing your ideas.

Finally, tomorrow marks the start of a moratorium on legislative email updates. Because of a 60-day, post-session rule, I won’t be sending updates for a few months. In the meantime, I would like to encourage you to directly contact me if you have any questions or concerns or if there’s any way I can assist you or your family. I look forward to hearing from you and can be reached at 651-296-4378 or rep.nels.pierson@house.mn.

Please stay in touch, and have a great rest of your summer!

Sincerely,
