Rep. Haley Legislative Update (7/20)

Friday, July 20, 2018

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I hope you and your family have enjoyed the summer so far. It’s hard to believe that we are already over halfway to Labor Day. Our students will be getting ready to go back to school before we know it.

This week’s newsletter includes:

  • Highlights of a tour to Summit Academy
  • Recognition for the Farm Family of the Year
  • Information about upcoming community events
  • An update on communications in the months ahead.

Summit Academy Tour

I had the opportunity to tour Summit Academy OIC on Wednesday this week. Summit works with students and young adults to gain their GED and then learn job skills to prepare them for work in the construction trades or health care industry. Next year they will also be launching an innovation center to prepare students for careers in I.T. related fields. I love Summit's culture of discipline, respect, and a high work ethic. Their motto is "The best social service program is a JOB!"   Here's a few pictures of CEO Dr. Louis King presenting to potential candidates, their "motivation wall," and a photo of the legislative group that attended.

Farm Family of the Year

Congratulations to Hinsch Farms for being named a 2018 Minnesota Farm Family of the Year! Hinsch Farms will be recognized on August 9 by the University of Minnesota at the annual Farmfest event near Redwood Falls. Brothers Scott and Chad Hinsch and their families run a highly successful dairy farm, and certainly deserve to represent Goodhue County as this year’s farm family. Congrats, Hinsch family!

Upcoming Events

I wanted to remind you of the many fun community events and celebrations for you and your family to enjoy in the coming weeks:

*Wabasha’s Riverboat Days run July 27-29th
*Red Wing’s River City Days are August 3-5th
*The Goodhue County Fair is coming up August 7-11th
*The Wabasha County Fair is slated for July 18-21st

Staying in Touch

I would like to take a moment to say thank you for your calls, emails, letters, and visits over the past two years. I best represent you and serve our communities when I hear from you and when we have opportunities to share views and opinions on the many issues that come before the legislature. Although we’re out of session for the biennium, I hope you will continue to contact my office. I am generally in my St. Paul office one day a week conducting legislative business and spending other workdays in my district.

Because of a campaign finance rule that limits mass communication from my legislative office to 60 days after the session ends, this will be the last legislative email update I am able to send out until November.  In the meantime, I encourage you to directly reach out and contact me via phone or email if you have any questions or concerns regarding state government. I would love to talk with you.

I can be reached via email at rep.barb.haley@house.mn or by phone at 651-296-8635.

Have a great rest of your summer!
