I hope you have had a wonderful summer and had a great time celebrating our country's independence on the Fourth of July. This will be the last update I can send out for a while, more on that below, but know you can always contact me for anything you may need or any questions you may have.
New laws taking effect
Gov. Mark Dayton’s veto of the omnibus supplemental budget bill diminished the number of new laws set to take effect this summer, but some key ones passed in 2018 are set to take effect August 1st. Click here for more information on what new laws will hit the books on August 1st. A few key laws I authored will be among them including:
- HF 817: will make it illegal to interfere with or attempt to interfere with automatic terminals such as gas pump dispensers. This gives law enforcement and property owners another tool to counter ID theft operations.
- HF 3210: will allow counties to construct, maintain and repair waterworks, sanitary sewer and storm sewer systems, with the option of using sanitary sewer and storm sewer charges to cover the costs.
New Driver License Design
This past week, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety released a new look and features for Minnesota Driver's Licenses. These will be the new designs for orders processed after August 6th. Included is a new vertical orientation for those under 21 and a preview of the REAL ID-compliant license option available beginning this October. Full details are available here.
