Rep. Kelly Fenton Applauds Signing of Legislation to Bring Greater Transparency, Local Control to 3M Settlement

Wednesday, May 30, 2018

SAINT PAUL, Minn—On Tuesday, May 29, 2018, Governor Dayton signed House File 3660 into law, bipartisan legislation spearheaded by Rep. Kelly Fenton, R-Woodbury, that ensures public transparency and guardrails for the $850 million 3M settlement. The new law, which was co-sponsored by other east metro area legislators including Rep. Keith Franke, R-St. Paul Park, Rep. Tony Jurgens, R-Cottage Grove, and Rep. Kathy Lohmer, R-Lake Elmo, will make sure funds are used for the east metro to enhance the quality and sustainability of drinking water.

“This legislation was critical to ensure that 3M settlement dollars stay in the east metro. Our bill makes it clear that funding be directed toward cleaning up and protecting east metro communities from future contamination issues, and that our cities have a say in the process,” said Rep. Fenton. “This is about local control, ensuring safe and clean drinking water, and protecting our communities. I am pleased Governor Dayton has signed this bill into law, and I want to sincerely thank all of the co-sponsors, stakeholders and local leaders who helped get this important measure to the finish line this session.”
