Legislative Update from Rep. Randy Jessup

Friday, May 25, 2018

Dear Neighbors,

The 2018 legislative session ended on Sunday evening capping one of the most productive two-year stretches at the capitol in recent memory. Over the last two years, we’ve see the largest tax relief bill in nearly two decades, the largest investment in roads and bridges in state history without a gas tax increase, major funding boosts for education, and reforms to lower health care costs and boost health care choices for Minnesota families.

Over the weekend, we passed legislation to build on these successes including a tax/education bill, omnibus supplemental finance bill, bonding bill, and pension bill.

Unfortunately, the governor vetoed both the education/tax bill as well as the supplemental finance bill on Wednesday. This is discouraging and will have widespread, negative impact for members of our community as well as for Minnesotans across the state. I am still hopeful, but I am less confident for the governor’s signature on the remaining bonding and pension bills.

For additional information regarding the consequences of the governor’s veto along with my thoughts on his actions, please click the image below.
