Dear Neighbors,

Happy Mother’s Day! As I take the time this weekend to celebrate my mother, as well as my wife, I’m in awe of their strength and sacrifice. Be sure to wish a happy Mother’s Day to any mom who’s made a positive impact in your life. Below is a photo of me and my wife Kim on the House floor from a couple years ago.

Statehood Day

Today marks the 160th anniversary of Minnesota becoming a state. It’s humbling to think about the countless legislators who’ve served at the Capitol long before my time. We’re fortunate to live in a state and country that affords us so many freedoms and protections. Here’s a beautiful photo of the chandelier in the Capitol being lit. Simply breathtaking.

School Visit

This week, my son Matthew and his classmates from Waconia Middle School came to the Capitol to celebrate Statehood Day. I was able to give them a tour of the Capitol and the House chambers; it was great they could join us. Earlier today, Matthew joined me in the State Government Finance Committee. He listened intently and took some good notes. Perhaps I was looking at a future legislator?

Fun Breakfast

We’re in a busy part of session, and I wanted to set aside a couple minutes for fun this week. I was joined by Rep. Regina Barr and Rep. Tony Jurgens to host a cereal breakfast for legislators and staff. As you can see, we had lots of variety; it felt like being a kid again.

We have just over a week remaining in session, and we’ll have a busy next few days. As we’re discussing our larger bills and initiatives, I hope you’ll reach out so we can connect. I enjoy gathering your input; it helps me be a better voice for our area.

Have a great Mother’s Day weekend!
