Dear Neighbor,
Here is an update from your Capitol and community.
Second Harvest Heartland Bill
Speaking about my legislation for Second Harvest Heartland during a rally on Wednesday
I am excited to share that the funding in the Second Harvest Heartland bill that I am championing is included in the $825 million House Bonding bill. $18 million would be provided by the state to help build a statewide food distribution center in Brooklyn Park, as studies done show food shelves and food banks could receive food most expediently from a location in the northwest suburbs. Food security is a growing and serious problem, and this organization makes a real difference for people in every corner of the state.
On Wednesday, I attended a rally for Second Harvest Heartland at the Capitol, and am proud to advocate for such an important cause.
No Minnesotan should go hungry, and Second Harvest Heartland does a great job serving hundreds of thousands of Minnesotans in need. They are on pace to generate 100 million meals this year.
Real ID Update
Earlier this week, Minnesota received federal assurance that a traditional Minnesota-issued driver’s license will continue to be sufficient identification to board domestic flights through October 1, 2020. Earlier this session, we passed a law that required the Dayton Administration to seek an extension for Real ID once it became available.
This is great news, and will ensure Minnesotans can continue to travel without undue complications. Our state is set to start issuing Real ID-compliant licenses later this year.

At the Capitol and Around the Community
Another great group of High School pages this week!
Thanks to the kids from Calvin Christian School for coming down to the Minnesota State Capitol. I like their idea that we should make a law to have ice cream served every Friday!
I enjoyed participating on a panel for the Edina Dialogue Event: Youth Climate Summit. Appreciated the opportunity to chat with so many kids about this important issue!
