Legislative Update from Rep. Dario Anselmo

Friday, April 20, 2018

Dear Neighbor,

Here is an update from your Capitol and community.

Second Harvest Heartland

Proud to work with Edina-resident and celebrity chef, Andrew Zimmern on my bill for Second Harvest Heartland

I was proud to join Chef Andrew Zimmern, Rob Zeaske, and Senator Paul Anderson to talk to the press about my bipartisan bonding bill for Second Harvest Heartland. The bill would appropriate $18 million to invest in a statewide food distribution center that would help reach people in every corner of our state. The center would be built in Brooklyn Park, as studies done show food shelves and food banks could receive food most expediently from a location in the northwest suburbs.

No Minnesotan should go hungry, and Second Harvest Heartland does a great job serving hundreds of thousands of Minnesotans in need. They are on pace to generate 100 million meals this year.

I think this is an important project, and I am advocating for this funding to be part of the bonding bill this year.

Moms Demand Action Stop by the Capitol

Speaking at the Moms Demand Action Rally at the Capitol earlier this week

I was honored to speak at the Moms Demand Action Rally this week about preventing gun violence and strengthening our gun laws in Minnesota. There is a lot of passion and enthusiasm around this issue, and I want to thank everyone that made the trip out to St. Paul to make their voices heard.

Supporting commonsense gun law reform is something I am working on this session, in addition to supporting school safety measures like funding school security upgrades, addressing student mental health, and educating teachers on suicide prevention.

Thanks to everyone who attended and spoke with me about this important issue!
