Friends,
Happy Friday! For those of you that weren’t quite ready for spring, it looks like we’ll be getting at least one more round of snow here this weekend. Please remember to drive safely and carefully this weekend if you’re traveling in the weather.
On Monday we returned to St. Paul from our week-long Easter/Passover break, and the pace picked up right where it left off.
Student Transportation for Pregnant/Parenting Teens
Wednesday I had the opportunity to present a bill of mine which would require school districts to provide transportation to the district’s alternative educational programs for pregnant or parenting teens. Currently, school districts are not required to provide this transportation to pregnant or parenting teens the same way they are required to provide it for other students in need of special transportation accommodations. This is an important bill which would help more pregnant or parenting teens access alternative learning programs so they can successfully complete high school and take the next steps in their education or careers.
Opioid Abuse Prevention Grant
This week, I joined the board of the Lakeville Public Safety Foundation as they received a $10,000 grant from the Addiction Policy Leadership Action Network (APLAN) to help public safety officials to prepare and respond to the opioid crisis. These extra resources are critical to the organization's efforts fighting the devastating effects of opioid abuse in our community.
At the Capitol
Debra Nelson stopped by to discuss environmental issues.
Discussed the “All Kids Count Act” with Yi Lie Lou and other education advocates.
Had a productive conversation with Tom Grendzinski of the Minnesota Utility Investors.
Jessie Diggins, Minnesota native and Olympic Gold Medalist in cross country skiing, was honored at the Capitol yesterday.
