Legislative Update from Rep. Jeff Backer

Friday, April 6, 2018

Dear Neighbors,

Early this week, news emerged that China may be considering placing tariffs on major Minnesota agriculture exports like pork and soybeans.

Foreign tariffs on products like soybeans and pork could be devastating to farmers here in our area as commodity prices are already low.

Out here, we understand that farming is not only an occupation, it’s a way of life and I urge the President to pursue trade policies that will strengthen our rural economies.

Unfortunately, agriculture isn’t the only industry that may be adversely affected by foreign tariffs and I am hopeful that the administration will take the necessary steps to ensure that our economy remains strong and continues growing.

While as a state legislator I do not have much of a say in U.S. trade policy, I want you to know that I am thinking about this issue and urge you to reach out to me and share your thoughts and concerns.

I can be reached by phone at either 651-296-4929 or 701-361-1909. I can also be reached via email at rep.jeff.backer@house.mn.

Have a great weekend,

Jeff
