Legislative Update from Rep. Dario Anselmo

Friday, March 23, 2018

Dear Neighbor,

Here is an update with the latest news from around the Capitol and community.

Restoration Hardware Bill

This week in the Commerce Committee they heard a bill I am carrying for the new Restoration Hardware on France Avenue in Edina. House File 3969 will permit the city to issue an on-sale intoxicating liquor license to the space.

It would need approval from the Edina City Council, but it’s something the business is asking for and I think will strengthen our city’s standing as a retail destination in the metro.

Mortgage Bill

I was excited to have one of my bills pass on the House Floor this week. House File 3158 updates the mortgage loan originator licensing statute to conform to the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System and Registry. We are the only state that has not yet adopted the uniform state test for mortgage loan originators, and this will help us bring greater efficiencies and accountability to financial services industries in Minnesota.

The Department of Commerce and Minnesota Mortgage Association support the bill, and it passed off the House Floor unanimously.

Smoking Cessation

On Thursday, I attended a rally at the Minnesota History Center to support a Smoke Free Generation. It was inspiring to see so many young people there dedicated to this cause.

I am proud to carry the Tobacco 21 bill in the House, which will help stop more young people from getting addicted to tobacco products and help our state save on health care costs.

Around the Capitol

The Minneapolis mayor stopped by the Capitol this week to advocate for a bonding request for the Upper Mississippi Terminal Project. It would be a great musical venue addition to the metro area, with First Avenue helping lead the way.

Met a great group of students from the U of M who were at the Capitol on Friday to advocate for Mental Health Day on the Hill.

It was great to connect with the Hopkins Schools LAC team at the Capitol. I appreciate their passion for school excellence!

Brought some sea salt chocolate cupcakes to committee this week for my Stop Over Salting bill. It’s a delicious way to gather support for saving our lakes and rivers!
