Dear Neighbors,
Here is an update from Saint Paul.
Wolf Depredation Bill
This week in the Agriculture Committee, they heard my legislation House File 3890 which would allow for the Department of Agriculture to reimburse University of Minnesota extension agents who determine the fair-market value of livestock killed by wolves.
It’s a small bill that’s important for our ranchers and farmers who need to make depredation claims.
Deer License Revenue
Another bill I am advancing this session deals with bolstering the Deer Management Account. A greater portion of money from deer hunting licenses sold in Minnesota would be deposited into the Deer Management Account. This will help ensure that folks who hunt deer are seeing their dollars go directly to best management practices for our state’s deer population and habitat improvement.
In total, my bill would raise the dollar amount dedicated to the account from deer hunting licenses from $2 to $16.
Agriculture Day
Tuesday was National Agriculture Day, and I want to acknowledge all of our hardworking farmers, ranchers, producers and folks working in this important industry.
Minnesota is a leader in agriculture, and the work you do is vital to our community, state and nation. Thank you for all you do!
I recorded a short message for National Ag Day which you can see here.
Digi-Key
Northwest Minnesota has many wonderful local businesses that help bolster our local economy and provide good-paying jobs. Digi-Key in Thief River Falls is one of those companies, and the Star Tribune did a great profile piece on them earlier this week.
I’d encourage you to check out the story: From a box of radio parts, Digi-Key grew into a $2.3 billion anchor of northwest Minnesota.
