Capitol Update from Rep. Dan Fabian

Friday, March 16, 2018

Dear Neighbors,

Here is an update from Saint Paul.

Critical Access Hospitals

Lifecare Medical Center in Roseau was named a top 100 critical access hospital in the nation recently by the Chartis Center for Rural Health. Critical access hospitals are vital to rural communities. I am proud to have a great local hospital like Lifecare in my district, and know it’s an important resource for many folks in Northwest Minnesota.

You can see all of the top 100 critical access hospitals here.

Chronic Wasting Disease Meeting

On Thursday, I attended a meeting in the Senate to discuss chronic wasting disease in Minnesota’s deer population. This is a critical issue for the health of our deer population and for hunters, and it’s important we stay vigilant on this issue.

State agencies that attended and provided information were the Board of Animal Health, Department of Natural Resources and Department of Agriculture.

MNsure Tax Bill

This week, House Republicans advanced a bill that will help folks save $30 million by reducing the MNsure tax from 3.5 percent to 2 percent.

This is a commonsense proposal that will benefit Minnesotans who have been hurt by MNsure and Obamacare. We are dedicated to continuing to advance solutions and real reforms to protect choice, lower costs and ensure Minnesotans are able to access quality, affordable health care.

State of the State

On Wednesday, Governor Mark Dayton gave his State of the State Address, his last as governor of Minnesota. I gave the House Republican response to his speech on the Minnesota News Network which broadcasts to radio stations across the state.

The state of our state is strong thanks in large part to efforts in the Republican-led Legislature to lower taxes for farmers, seniors, families, Main Street businesses and hardworking taxpayers across the state. We have also made critical investments in our infrastructure, put more money in every classroom and implemented meaningful reforms to stabilize our individual insurance market.

We are committed to continuing to advance commonsense policies and advocate for the priorities of families, taxpayers and Minnesota citizens this session.

Roseau Basketball

Good luck to the defending state champion Roseau girls’ basketball team! They defeated Tracy-Milroy-Balaton on Wednesday, and are playing again tonight at 8:00 pm at Target Center in Minneapolis. We’re all rooting for you!
