Legislative Update From Rep. Peterson

Friday, March 9, 2018

Friends,

Happy Friday!  Best of luck to the Burnsville boys’ basketball team in their playoff game tonight against Eastview!  Before the weekend, I wanted to send out a quick update with some news from the Capitol.

I had the pleasure of chatting with a few students from Burnsville High School during their visits to the Capitol this week.

I also enjoyed my tour of the Family Resource Center and Food Shelf in Rosemount.

My Bills

On Tuesday, I testified at the Capital Investment Committee hearing on the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency’s bonding request to construct remedial systems for the Freeway Closed Landfill in Burnsville.  I am authoring a bill this session in order to provide the bonding funds to the MPCA to correctly clean up this project and find solutions moving forward.

On Wednesday, I presented my childcare assistance bill, House File 3205, to the Subcommittee on Childcare Access and Affordability.  By streamlining the process for families experiencing homelessness, this bill would take important steps towards ensuring all families are able to access stable, quality childcare.  This legislation would also update the childcare assistance program reimbursement rates from the severely outdated 2011 rates, allowing more providers to better serve more families.

I’ll be sure to keep you updated as each of these bills go through the legislative process in the weeks and months ahead.
