Capitol Newsletter from Rep. John Poston

Friday, March 9, 2018

Dear Neighbors,

Earlier this week, the non-partisan legislative auditor (OLA) released a comprehensive report detailing widespread mismanagement at the Department of Health’s Office of Health Facility Complaints (OHFC). This is the entity that it responsible with processing and investigating complaints of health care facilities violating state or federal regulations.

This report comes on the heels of a Star Tribune story that revealed widespread elder abuse in Minnesota that was not being followed up on by the agency that is tasked with investigating.

Clearly, such mismanagement by the Department of Health is unacceptable and I am grateful that legislation has been introduced that will increase transparency and improve the reporting process at our long-term care facilities.

It is my commitment to ensure that our aging seniors receive the dignity and respect they deserve.
