Statement re: faltering MNLARS

Monday, February 5, 2018

ST. PAUL – Rep. Joe McDonald, R-Delano, issued the following statement regarding the Minnesota Licensing and Registration System roadmap released Wednesday by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, seeking $43 million in additional funding to fix the failed system.

“People in our area tell me they are disgusted by this situation,” McDonald said. “I agree with them, that it is inexcusable for nearly $100 million in taxpayer money to have been spent on implementing this new licensing system and about all DPS has to show for it is a request for $43 million more from taxpayers. The governor and his administration have had seven years to deliver the working product Minnesotans deserve, but have failed. We in the House will continue working to protect taxpayers and making whatever changes are necessary to get MNLARS functioning the way it should, whether that means more accountability is needed at the state level or that we are better off hiring a private group to take over.”
