Rep. Melissa Hortman hails funding of Northstar Corridor in Bonding Bill

Rep. Melissa Hortman (DFL-Brooklyn Park/Coon Rapids) commended the inclusion of funds for the Northstar Corridor as part of the state bonding bill that was passed on Wednesday. The project received full funding of $37.5 million.
"This is very exciting news for our area," said Hortman. "We have been working on this project for many years and it is gratifying to see it finally coming to fruition."
"The failure of the legislature to get the job done last session put at risk getting federal funds for this project."
Supporters of the Northstar Corridor commuter rail project see it as a key to providing relief for commuters. The Senate has supported inclusion for this project in the past but this is the first time it was included in the House bonding bill.
"We need to come up with real solutions for our transportation issues," said Hortman. "Northstar Commuter Rail is the first step in building a first class transportation system to meet our current and future transportation needs."
Hortman was also pleased that the Anoka-Ramsey Community College Cambridge building received $10.483 million in funding and metro regional parks were awarded $7 million. "Any investment in education offers a statewide benefit, not just for our area," said Hortman.
"Many of us first-termers are here because people were tired of the partisan politics that failed to get the job done in the last session," said Hortman. " The passage of this bill shows that Rep. Dittrich and I are succeeding in getting the job done."
