Legislative Update from Rep. Randy Jessup

Thursday, February 1, 2018

Greetings,

On Monday, I joined a bipartisan group of lawmakers, high school students, and community leaders at a press conference announcing our intention to introduce legislation this year to combat sexual exploitation in our schools. The legislation modifies current child sexual abuse prevention curriculum in public schools to include sexual exploitation prevention.

Shockingly, children are targeted for sexual exploitation at ages as young as 10 to 12 years old with predators targeting schools. Fortunately, high school students like Jessica Melnik and her group Girls United MN and organizations like The Link are working hard to ensure that sex trafficking and exploitation has no place in Minnesota and in our schools.

If you’re interested in watching the press conference, you can visit this link here. You can also read more about Jessica and her group Girls United MN here.

I will be sure to keep you posted as this legislation moves through the process here in St. Paul.
