Update from the House

Tuesday, January 16, 2018

Dear Neighbor,

Preparations continue for the 2018 legislative session, which is now just a little more than a month from starting on Feb. 20.

Aside from the issues themselves, much of the work these days involves putting logistics in place, including personnel. This includes awarding internships, an opportunity I urge area undergraduates/graduates to consider seeking.

Minnesota House internships provide students opportunities to apply their knowledge and skills in a professional setting, while gaining new skills and having a behind-the-scenes look at the political process. Interns handle a wide variety of duties essential to the legislative session. A variety of internship roles is available and some of the responsibilities include:

  • Conducting research on specific issues
  • Monitoring and reporting on committee meetings for legislators
  • Researching and drafting responses to constituent inquiries
  • Summarizing reports or bills
  • Conducting opinion surveys
  • Writing press releases
  • Assisting with mail and telephone contacts
  • Contacting other legislators, administrative personnel, and lobbyists

More details on internships, including application and contact information, are available at this link or by calling (651) 296-7452. There is no formal deadline to apply, but the sooner the better.

Look for more news from the House soon, including a closer look at some of the key challenges we expect to face at the Capitol during the upcoming session.

Sincerely,

Bob
