Reps. Fabian & Kiel Congratulate Kittson and Pennington Counties on Receiving Transportation Grants

Thursday, January 4, 2018

Saint Paul, MN—Rep. Deb Kiel, R-Crookston, and Rep. Dan Fabian, R-Roseau, are congratulating Kittson and Pennington Counties for receiving grants for two state highway projects tied to growing industry and business. These Transportation Economic Development (TED) program grants were awarded by the Minnesota Department of Transportation in partnership with the Department of Employment and Economic Development.

Kittson County was awarded $315,000 to install a turning lane and frontage road adjacent to Highway 75 to increase safety by reducing the need for stacking trucks waiting to enter the plant near the junction of County State Aid Highway 10. Pennington County received $1 million to build a roundabout in Thief River Falls at Highway 32 and County State Aid Highway 16 to allow for faster truck transportation to local companies Digi-Key and Arctic Cat.

“With the Digi-Key expansion and vital local industry in Northwest Minnesota, it’s great to see these TED program grants awarded to Pennington and Kittson Counties,” said Rep. Fabian. “Our roads, bridges and transportation infrastructure are tied to growing businesses, jobs and our local economy, and these funds will help make key improvements in our area.”

“Congratulations to Pennington County for securing a $1 million grant to improve local transportation infrastructure in Thief River Falls,” said Rep. Kiel. “We are proud to have strong local and growing industry here in Northwest Minnesota, and it’s great to see our communities receive these transportation grants to make meaningful improvements to our road and bridge infrastructure. Well done!”

In total, seven communities were awarded a total of $18.2 million in grants under the TED program. More information and the full list of projects can be found here.
