New Farm & Rural Helpline is on call

Tuesday, December 19, 2017

ST. PAUL – The Minnesota Department of Agriculture recently established a Farm and Rural Helpline, a resource Rep. Chris Swedzinski, R-Ghent, said could help those facing a variety of challenges.

The MDA created this helpline as a one-stop-shop of sorts for farmers to access to get referrals for mental health services, financial counseling, legal help and other resources that stressed farmers may be seeking.

“Sometimes we just don’t know where to turn when times get tough and this hotline is a good way for people to get in touch with those who can help,” Swedzinski said. “As a farmer myself, I am quite familiar with the stress and unpredictability the work can bring. Low commodity prices we have been seeing these days are contributing to the strain many are experiencing. I hope people who are looking for guidance will take advantage of this new service.”

The helpline is accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling toll-free (833) 600-2670.
