Rep. Haley Legislative Update (12-8)

Friday, December 8, 2017

Hello Friends and Neighbors,

We’re quickly closing in on Christmas, which means the semester is winding down for many of our students. This can be such a stressful time, but the holiday break is a welcomed reward. To all our local students, good luck on your finals!

This week, I wanted to congratulate a local organization, as well as tell you about an informative conference I went to last week.

Red Wing Ignite:

Congrats to Red Wing Ignite for being added to the US Ignite Smart Gigabit Communities (SGC) program! This is a big deal for our area as Red Wing Ignite is one of 25 communities to participate as a Smart Gigabit Community. Upgrading our technology is vitally important as our students, small businesses, and local governments need to keep pace with a global and ever-changing economy. I look forward to seeing the positive impact of this going forward.

ExcelinEd National Summit on Education Reform:

I joined over 1,200 state legislators and policymakers from 40 states to talk about education reform. It was an excellent conference! I appreciated the chance to learn from what other states are doing and hear from educators and policymakers who are being innovative and forward-thinking in ways to help all students succeed and be prepared for success in our changing economy.

Local Event:

With the holidays approaching, there’s plenty of fun, family-friendly opportunities in our area. I encourage you to SHOP LOCAL and support our small businesses! This weekend, on December 9, it’s the 18th Annual Holiday Celebration of the Arts at The Anderson Center. Local vendors, artists, and craftsmen will be on hand to display their works of art. It’s a perfect opportunity to do some Christmas shopping while supporting local entrepreneurs. Here’s a link to more details.
