RELEASE: Statement from Rep. Fabian on passage of Congressman Emmer's MINER Act

Thursday, November 30, 2017

ROSEAU, MN—Rep. Dan Fabian, R-Roseau, Chair of the House Environment and Natural Resources Committee issued the following statement regarding today's vote by Congress to pass the MINER Act, which would reverse the last-minute, politically motivated actions by the Obama administration to withdraw thousands of acres of federal land from potential development for mining and require Congressional action for future land withdrawals. The Obama administration actions threatened to kill the proposed Twin Metals mining project in Northeast Minnesota.

"I want to congratulate Congressman Emmer on the passage of the MINER Act, and thank him for his work to protect good-paying jobs in Minnesota and restore common sense to this process," Fabian said. "This bill breathes life back into the proposed Twin Metals project that would bring thousands of jobs and billions in revenue to Minnesota communities and schools. It's important that we reject the false choice between protecting our environment and developing our natural resources—we can and must do both."
