Legislative Update from Rep. Anna Wills

Friday, November 17, 2017

Dear Friends,

On Thursday the Minnesota Supreme Court declined to rule on the constitutional merits of Governor Dayton's veto of the legislature's funding. The Court stated they declined to rule due to the Legislature being able to continue operating until the 2018 Legislative Session reconvenes in February. This was a disappointing result as we represent YOUR voice at the Capitol and believe the Court should have given a clear signal that this type of action by the current executive, or any future one from any party,  is unacceptable.

The good news is that due to wise fiscal management with available funds, the Legislature will continue to be able to serve our constituents. Please do not hesitate to contact me if there is anything I can do to better serve you!

2017 Legislative Session

The 2017 Session was truly a great example of what can get done in divided government. Every bill that was signed into law was by definition bipartisan as it passed a Republican Legislature and signed by a Democrat Governor. We successfully delivered the largest tax relief package for Minnesotans in nearly two decades and the largest investment in roads and bridge infrastructure in state history without a gas tax increase.

Rosemount Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Dinner

On Sunday, I was privileged to attend the Rosemount Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Veterans Day dinner. Retired Air Force Lt. Col. Terry Branham was our guest speaker and music was provided by Johnny Holliday. It was a wonderful event to honor our heroes!

Apple Valley Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Dinner

On Thursday, it was an honor to speak at the Apple Valley Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Veterans dinner along with Rep. Erin Maye Quade (57A). Another fantastic event honoring our heroes! Thank you to the scouts who volunteered as well!

During the 2017 Session, we worked hard to make sure we kept our promises to our veterans. Democrats and Republicans alike are committed each session to honoring the service and the sacrifice to our nation by our veterans. For a list of the work we have done for our veterans, click here

Rosemount: Put Your Comments on the Map

The Rosemount Community Development has added a new interactive map to its website. The map allows residents to highlight specific areas in the community and make comments. This is a cool new tool for our community and gives you the chance to weigh in and share your opinion. Click here to read more and for the link to the Citizen Comment Map itself

Rosemount Boy Scout Earns Every Badge

Gabe Anderson, a high school senior in Rosemount, recently earned his 137th badge. That's not only a lot of badges and a great accomplishment, but it is actually all of the badges that could possibly be earned. This is a remarkable accomplishment! You can read more about Gabe's adventure in Scouts here

Interim Appointments

If you would like to meet with me to ask any questions or discuss a particular issue, my meetings will be held in-district during these months before next year’s session. Simply use the same contact information for my office below, and we will find a time and place to meet in our community, instead of traveling all the way to Saint Paul!
