Update re: Hwy. 371 meeting; local autism mtg. set for Monday

Thursday, November 16, 2017

Dear Neighbor,

Thank you to all those who attended this week’s meeting regarding the Highway 371 corridor. There was a good exchange of thoughts and ideas and a wide range of perspectives shared on this complex issue.

The most important thing to take from the meeting is that a working group made up of leaders from throughout the area is being created to help us determine the best plan. The Bemidji Pioneer covered the meeting and published an article which pretty well sums up the situation. Your feedback is welcome as we work to reach the best solutions.

On a different subject, I want to let people know a public meeting will take place this coming Monday in Bemidji to discuss services available through Medical Assistance and MinnesotaCare for children, youth and young adults under age 21 with autism spectrum disorder and related conditions.

The event is being put on by the Minnesota Department of Human Services. DHS representatives will answer questions and lay out information about the Early Intensive Developmental and Behavioral Intervention benefit and services.

I hope people take advantage of this chance to learn more about this subject and also provide DHS with feedback that ultimately could help improve services. We are fortunate to have this opportunity to communicate directly with DHS and share thoughts on what is working, what is not working, and offer ideas for how things might be done better.

The meeting will be 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. this Monday (Nov. 20) at the Northwest Indian Community Development Center (1819 Bemidji Ave. N., Bemidji). If special accommodations or language assistance would help you attend, please email ASD.DHS@state.mn.us as soon as possible and list the type of accommodations needed.

Sincerely,

Matt
