Legislative Update (November 2, 2017)

Thursday, November 2, 2017

Dear Neighbors,

Local Elections

It may be an odd-year, but important local elections are coming up next week. We have school board members on the ballot, as well as two referendum questions. It’s very important you exercise your right to vote! These elections have a direct impact on you and your family, and I encourage you to take part on Tuesday, November 7.

Please know that since it’s an off-year, you may be voting at a different location that you’re accustomed to. Here’s a handy tool from the Minnesota Secretary of State’s office that helps find your specific polling location.

Commission Hearing

On Tuesday, we held a Data Practices Commission hearing in St. Paul. We heard from constituents who are having difficulties with government agencies not fulfilling their data practices requests. It’s important to know that if you put in a data practices request to an applicable unit of government, you’re entitled to that information. Sometimes governments can stall, delay, and try to outwait a request. This is wrong, and something we’re looking to correct.

Local Sports

Congrats to the Andover girls’ soccer team for making it to the state tournament! Although they weren’t able to advance at state, we’re so proud of our team for an incredible season and postseason run. Great job, girls!

Good luck to the Andover football team who play tomorrow night in the section finals! If you’re free, the game is at 7pm at Andover High School.

Please Contact Me

Even though we’re out of session, I’d still like to hear from you in any way I can be of service. Feel free to call or email my office and I’ll get right back to you.

Have a great weekend!

Peggy
