Legislative Update

Friday, October 27, 2017

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I hope everyone has a fun and safe Halloween! Here is an update with the latest news from the Capitol.

In this Issue:

  • Lawsuit Update
  • Community Events
  • Peppin’s MinnTriv

Lawsuit Update

On Wednesday, the House and Senate filed a joint motion with Ramsey County District Court, requesting that they enforce or clarify their summer ruling that voided Governor Dayton’s line-item veto and restored legislative funding. Although the Supreme Court has not overturned that ruling and it is still in effect, Governor Dayton and Commissioner Frans have been withholding legislative funding. The motion requests that the district court ruling be enforced, giving the Legislature access to its rightful funding.

The Legislature represents communities and citizens in every part of our state, and to properly serve the people of Minnesota, the Legislature must have access to appropriate funding.

I will keep you updated as events unfold.

Community Events

The Rogers-Hasan Seniors are hosting their annual Fall Craft and Bake Sale tomorrow from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Rogers Community Room. This is a great place to find a unique gift for that special someone, purchase some tasty baked goods and enjoy lunch. The Community Room is located at 21201 Memorial Drive in Rogers.

While today’s snow undoubtedly signals the end of the outdoor farmer’s market season, the Maple Grove Farmers Market moves indoors for a limited schedule. The market will be open from 3-6 p.m. inside the Maple Grove Community Center on Thursday November, 2 and November 16, and Thursday, December 7 and 21. There will be up to 25 vendors selling seasonal produce, meat products, breads, jams/jellies, syrup, honey, cheese, sauces, salsa, cookies, wild rice and more. Visit www.maplegrovefarmersmarket.com for more information.

Peppin’s MinnTriv

Thank you to everyone who participated in the last Peppin’s MinnTriv Question. The question was:  This colorful clothing item was created by two Minnesota gym owners in the late 1980s. The answer was Zubaz.

Congratulations to Jason Osgood from Elk River who is last week’s winner!

Here is this week’s question: Located in Minnesota, this is the largest professional dinner theater company in the United States.

The FOURTH respondent with the correct answer will be featured in the next e-mail update!
