RELEASE: MILLER LEGISLATION MEANS MORE HEALTH CARE CHOICES FOR RURAL MINNESOTA

Wednesday, October 25, 2017

Fairfax, MN—Representative Tim Miller, R-Prinsburg, attended a meeting Tuesday hosted by Central Region Cooperative where local residents gathered to learn more about co-op insurance plans ahead of the November 1 open enrollment period. Miller was the chief author of legislation during the 2017 legislative session that helped make these types of plans possible. Miller successfully amended the legislation onto the premium relief bill passed by the legislature and signed into law by Governor Dayton in January.

"It's extremely rewarding to see this legislation translate into expanded health care choices for families in Western Minnesota and other rural areas across the state," Miller said. "I'm proud of the results we achieved last session to help lower health care costs, increase access and choice, and improve the health of Minnesota's individual market."

Miller's legislation allowed organizations with member owners—such as farm cooperatives—to provide health insurance to members. Cooperative organizations have been holding informational meetings throughout the state to give residents more information about plan options.
