Greetings,

On Monday, Dave McClung, Arden Hills Councilmember, and I had the opportunity to tour the new Land O’Lakes building with Marcia Droege, Director of Facilities and Real Estate. The 155,000 square foot building will expand the company’s campus presence in Arden Hills by over 50%. In cooperation with the city of Arden Hills and Ramsey County, Land O’Lakes has made a significant investment and commitment to our community. Employee oriented work spaces, forthcoming on-site fitness and daycare centers, and the advantages of our north suburban community are expected to attract and retain employees, many of which will likely reside in our area.

On Saturday, I participated in a Foster the Love Minnesota backpack initiative at my church. Ten local churches were represented at the event, which included the stuffing of 100 backpacks with blankets, books, toys, underclothing, shampoo, and other items. The backpacks will be distributed by Ramsey and Hennepin counties to foster children as they are introduced to their foster families. The introduction of a foster child to their foster family can be a stressful event. A filled backpack for the child is helpful and appreciated at the time of transition. My thanks to all families involved in foster care and adoption, and your love for children in difficult circumstances.

MNLARS

If you have been experiencing issues trying to register a vehicle, transfer a title, or any other services at any of our local license centers, it is due to a new system that has been implemented by Driver and Vehicle Services (DVS): the Minnesota Licensing and Registration System (MNLARS). The Legislature has been working closely with DVS to not only get Minnesota license centers back to operating functionally, but to also improve their efficiency. Please share any issues you experienced with MNLARS here and feel free to let me know of your experience as well.

REAL ID

The state of Minnesota was recently granted an extension from the federal government on the implementation of REAL ID until October 10th, 2018. As long as the Department of Public Safety is able to remedy the issues with MNLARS, the goal is to have REAL ID-compliant licenses ready to be distributed next fall. Your current driver’s license will still meet federal requirements until all REAL ID-compliant licenses are distributed.
