Real ID Gets an Extension

Thursday, October 19, 2017

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Here is an update with the latest news from the Capitol.

In this Issue:

  • Real ID Extension
  • Halloween Fun and other Community Events
  • Peppin’s MinnTriv

Real ID Extension

This week, it was announced that Minnesota has been granted an extended grace period for Real ID through October 2018. Coming from the Department of Homeland Security, this is great news that will ensure state-issued identification can continue to be used to board an airplane, visit a military base or enter a federal building.

While the Real ID extension is a positive step forward as our state works toward full implementation of this federal requirement, it also highlights the ongoing problems with the new Minnesota Licensing and Registration System (MNLARS). Since transitioning to the new MNLARS program this summer, many Minnesotans have been left frustrated when trying to do everyday things like renew their license or tabs. Getting this system to work properly is critical to ensure that implementation of the Real ID law can move forward as scheduled.

Also, if you have run into any issues with the MNLARS system and need assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact my office. I am here to serve you!

Halloween Fun and other Community Events

There are plenty of fun fall events taking place in our communities this weekend and next.

The Osseo-Maple Grove American Legion is hosting its Steak, Fish and Shrimp dinner on Friday, October 20 from 5:30 to 8:30 at the Legion located at 260 Fourth Ave. SE in Osseo. Dinner costs $10 ($12 for a combination plate) and includes baked potato, coleslaw, toast and coffee. All proceeds are donated to local veterans’ organizations.

The Maple Grove Community Organization is holding its Happy Halloween Family Fun Event on Saturday, October 21 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at Weaver Lake Park, 8401 Dunkirk Lane. Kids should wear their costumes to enjoy games, crafts, music and more. There is a cost of $5 per child.

The Rogers-Hasan Seniors are hosting their annual Fall Craft and Bake Sale on Saturday, October 28 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Rogers Community Room. This is a great place to find a unique gift for that special someone, purchase some tasty baked goods and enjoy lunch. The Community Room is located at 21201 Memorial Drive in Rogers.

Peppin’s MinnTriv

Thank you to everyone who participated in the last Peppin’s MinnTriv Question. The question was:  During a scoring celebration on Monday Night Football this week, the Vikings played this children’s game which Minnesotans call something different than the rest of the nation. The answer was Duck Duck Gray Duck.

Congratulations to Mark Donley from Rogers who is this week’s winner!

Here is this week’s question: This colorful clothing item was created by two Minnesota gym owners in the late 1980s.

The FIFTH respondent with the correct answer will be featured in the next e-mail update!
