Legislative Update-Rep. Roz Peterson

Tuesday, October 17, 2017

Greetings!

I hope you have been enjoying the mild fall weather and the sunshine; below, I will discuss some current issues and upcoming events in our community.

REAL ID Implementation

The state of Minnesota was recently granted an extension from the federal government on the implementation of REAL ID until at least January 22, 2018. The state will continue to request extensions until next fall, October 2018, when REAL ID-compliant licenses should be ready to be distributed. Your current driver’s license will still meet federal requirements until all REAL ID-compliant licenses are distributed. Once Minnesota becomes fully REAL ID-compliant, Minnesotans will have to either apply to get a REAL ID, or apply for a noncompliant state driver's license and use a passport in order to board airplanes, or visit military bases and federal buildings. At this point, no action needs to be taken on your end.

Local Recognition

Four Burnsville businesses were honored earlier this month by being named ‘Employers of Excellence’ by the Dakota-Scott Workforce Development Board:

  • Bankers Equipment Services
  • Custom Drapery and Blinds by Esch
  • Firefly Credit Union
  • UTC Aerospace Systems

These employers were evaluated on various factors: turnover, rate of growth, promotion rates, employee evaluations and feedback, percentage of employee injured, diversity of management, benefits offered, training expenditures, paid days off, and increase in pay. I am proud to have businesses in Burnsville that are committed to our community and our local workforce!
