Legislative Update

Friday, September 22, 2017

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

The Legislature and Governor began court-ordered mediation this week. Here is an update with the latest news from the Capitol.

In this Issue:

  • High School Page Program
  • MGA 2017 Hero of the Food Industry
  • Peppin’s MinnTriv

High School Page Program

Do you know a high school junior interested in politics and government? They should sign up for the House High School Page Program!

Over the past forty years, the High School Page Program has offered a great, hands-on learning experience, providing students with the opportunity to learn more about how their state government works first-hand. Participants get to meet with legislators, assist in the legislative process, develop leadership skills, and learn more about important issues affecting our state.

To apply, students will need to fill out the application, receive a faculty recommendation and craft an essay. All applications are due by December 1, 2017.

If you know a high school junior who would be interested, encourage them to apply! It’s a fun and unique experience, and it looks great on college resumes too. You can learn more about the program and how to apply here.

I was honored to recently receive the 2017 Hero of the Food Industry Award from the Minnesota Grocers Association, one of just four legislators to be recognized this year. I will continue to advocate for commonsense legislation that advances the free marketplace and supports food industry employers, employees and consumers in our community and across the state!

Peppin’s MinnTriv

Thank you to everyone who participated in the last Peppin’s MinnTriv Question. The question was:  Nordic Ware, a family-owned manufacturing firm in Minneapolis, trademarked this item in 1950. The answer was the Bundt Pan.

Congratulations to Brian O’Neil from Maple Grove for having the first correct response!

Here is this week’s question: This Minnesota town is known as the “Halloween Capital of the World.”

Respond to this question and you could be featured in the next e-mail update!
