Supreme Court Ruling and Dayton Heritage Day is Here!

Friday, September 15, 2017

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Here is an update with the latest news from the Capitol.

In this Issue:

  • Supreme Court Update
  • Dayton Heritage Day
  • Housing Leadership Award
  • Peppin’s MinnTriv

Supreme Court Update

Late last week, the Supreme Court issued an order in the case between the Legislature and Governor Dayton. The order confirmed the governor’s veto of legislative funding, but did not render a decision in the case, nor did it vacate the lower court’s ruling that sided decisively with the Legislature. Instead it ordered us into mediation with the governor hoping to secure a political resolution rather than a legal one.

We are pleased that the Supreme Court recognized that Minnesotans have a right to three functioning branches of government, and we will work in good faith once again during the mediation process to secure funding for the legislative branch.

Dayton Heritage Day

The city of Dayton is holding its annual Heritage Day Celebration on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. with a parade, beer tent, live music all day, a Kids Fun Run, car show, bean bag tournament and the always popular pie and ice cream social. Come to Dayton on Saturday to join in the fun! For a schedule of the day’s events, go to http://bit.ly/2wcbhGr. I hope to see you there!

Housing Leadership Award

I was honored to recently receive a 2017 Housing Leadership Award from Housing First Minnesota, a group of more than 1,200 homebuilding, remodeling and associated industry businesses.

The award is given to legislators who are committed to legislative solutions that make homebuilding and remodeling affordable and safe, without excessive overregulation of the industry.

I will continue to advocate for commonsense policies that work for homeowners, our communities and the housing industry. Thank you for the recognition!

Peppin’s MinnTriv

Thank you to everyone who participated in the last Peppin’s MinnTriv Question. The question was:  Who was the first woman to serve on the Minnesota Supreme Court? The answer was Rosalie E. Wahl.

Congratulations to Tom Pollock from Maple Grove for having the first correct response.

Here is this week’s question:

Nordic Ware, a family-owned manufacturing firm in Minneapolis, trademarked this item in 1950.

Respond to this question and you could be featured in the next e-mail update!
