Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I’ve had a few people ask me what legislators are doing when we aren’t in St. Paul for session. I am using this period between sessions to meet with as many individuals, groups, organizations and businesses as I can fit into the schedule. In addition, I’ve been trying to get to as many local city council, county board, and township meetings as possible. It’s important for me to hear about the most local issues, and how we might be able to tackle some of these bigger questions at the state level. If I haven’t made it to your area for a local meeting, please contact my office and let me know about any upcoming meetings; I’d love to try and make it!

Mining Tour

Recently, I joined the Legislative Permanent School Fund Commission for a mining tour. We were able to see how these mining operations work, and how, among other benefits, they help provide millions of dollars for Minnesota schools. Living on the Iron Range, it was fun to see some of my colleagues get a firsthand view of one of our main industries. Here’s a photo of legislators, staff, and other interested parties from the tour.

Fighting Hunger

This week, Sen. Tomassoni and I joined other officials and volunteers to assist with Second Harvest North Central Food Bank’s Public Service Day of Action event. I was honored to be invited, and pleased to see all the work Second Harvest is doing to fight hunger in our community. For video news coverage on the event, please click here.

Upcoming Meetings

On Wednesday, September 27, the Minnesota House Child Support Task Force is holding a meeting in Brainerd from 4-6pm. The Brainerd meeting, although not in our district, is the closest location and is a time for residents to share their insights, questions, and concerns regarding Minnesota’s child support guidelines. For those interested, the event is being held at Land Services Building, 322 Laurel Street, #12, Brainerd, MN.

As other events or meetings come to my attention, I’ll be sure to pass them along!
