Dear Friends and Neighbors,
I hope all students, families, educators and staff had a great first week back at school! Here is an update with the latest news from the Capitol.
In this Issue:
Supreme Court Hearing
Last week, I attended the oral arguments presented to the Minnesota Supreme Court as the Legislature looks to uphold a lower court ruling that Governor Dayton’s line item veto of legislative funding was unconstitutional.
I am disappointed that Governor Dayton chose to appeal the lower court ruling and waste taxpayer dollars on legal expenses. I believe his actions unconstitutionally eliminated a co-equal branch of government with a line item veto of legislative funding.
I am hopeful that the Supreme Court will side with the Legislature and uphold the lower court’s ruling. I will keep you updated.
Peppin’s MinnTriv
Thank you to everyone who participated in the last Peppin’s MinnTriv Question. The question was: Just two weeks before becoming President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt said this famous phrase during a speech at the Minnesota State Fair. The answer was “Speak softly and carry a big stick.”
Congratulations to Susan Spears for having the first correct response!
Here is this week’s question:
Who was the first woman to serve on the Minnesota Supreme Court?
Respond to this question and you could be featured in the next e-mail update!
