Legislative Update from Rep. Bob Dettmer

Tuesday, August 22, 2017

Dear Friends,

As many of you know, we recently celebrated the Capitol Grand Reopening after a four-year-long restoration.

Our state Capitol is one of the most magnificent in the nation, and the Reopening was aimed at reintroducing Minnesotans with their restored Capitol and its new public spaces.

Here is a video that takes you inside the Capitol restoration project: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHRvPMUXVfQ

The celebration included something for everyone – fireworks, concerts, demonstrations by the craftsmen who worked on the restoration, behind the scenes tours, and much more. Here is a quick video from the celebration: https://youtu.be/JepQUhBLtjM

It was great to see some of you at this event, and I encourage anyone who didn’t have the chance to attend to take advantage of the ongoing Capitol tours that run throughout the year.

Last week members of the House Capitol Investment Committee toured northwestern Minnesota. These tours provide great opportunities to bonding projects around the state to present their requests and show how bonding dollars can be used to develop and benefit their surrounding areas.

A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of attending the St. Croix Bridge Grand Opening. This is the largest public works project in Minnesota’s history, and resulted from lots of bipartisan cooperation in both our state and Wisconsin. Government can work effectively for its people, and this bridge is an amazing example of that. Here is a brief video from the bridge dedication: https://youtu.be/0wIToJDPTdQ

As always, thank you for the honor of being your state representative. Please contact me with any questions or input you may have; I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Bob
