ST. PAUL, MN -- Rep. Barb Haley (R-Red Wing), issued the following statement congratulating area 2017 Farm Families of the Year, Century Farms, and Sesquicentennial Farms.
“Family Farms are some of the most important community assets in Greater Minnesota,” said Haley. “I would like to commend these farms for their long-term commitment to feeding our state.”
The Farm Family Recognition Program is coordinated by the University of Minnesota Extension; the College of Food, Agriculture, and Natural Resources Sciences; and the College of Veterinary Medicine, and recognizes families from Minnesota's 87 counties who have made significant contributions to Minnesota agriculture and their communities. Farm Family recognition day will take place on Thursday, August 3rd at Farmfest.
2017 award winners from District 21A are:
- Goodhue County: Bucks Unlimited
- Wabasha County: Dean, Lois, Eric, and Chassidy Klein
The honoring of Century Farms is coordinated by the Minnesota State Fair and the Minnesota Farm Bureau; to qualify, the farm must have had continuous family ownership for at least 100 years and be on 50 acres of land or more.

The honoring of Sesquicentennial Farms is coordinated by the Minnesota Farm Bureau.
