Summer Update: Ag in the Classroom & Capitol Celebration

Friday, July 28, 2017

Friends,

I hope your summer continues to treat you well. I've had a great time making my way around the district to various events and festivities. Meeting new people and seeing friendly faces across our great area has been the highlight of my time as a legislator. Below I have a few pictures and a brief bit about a few of those events. Have a great weekend!

Agriculture in the Classroom

Recently I had the opportunity to learn about the program called the Minnesota Agriculture in the Classroom. We toured the LaPorte School farm and two farms north of Blackduck. It was great to see the work being done to make sure future generations have the opportunity to learn and engage in agricultural activities. Below are a few pictures from the tours. Click here for more information on the program.

New Laws

The 2017 Legislative Session will go down as one of the most productive in recent memory. It took bipartisan action to get things done and that is exactly what we did. We successfully delivered the largest tax relief package for Minnesotans in nearly two decades and the largest investment in roads and bridge infrastructure in state history without a gas tax increase. Many of the laws passed in the 2017 session went into effect on July 1st, those can be seen here, while another batch will go into effect on August 1st, which can be seen here

Reminder: Capitol Grand Opening Celebration

After a $310 million restoration and four years of work, the Minnesota State Capitol is open to the public. To commemorate this special occasion and to invite Minnesotans back to the People’s House, there will be a Grand Opening Celebration held on August 11, 12, and 13. The celebration will have something for everyone – fireworks, concerts, demonstrations by the artisans that worked on the restoration, behind the scenes tours, and much more. Most of the events are free, or offered at a very low cost. Hopefully you can make it down to St. Paul to see the beautifully restored Capitol!

Please continue to stay in touch to share your thoughts or concerns. My phone number is 651-296-4265 or you can email me at rep.matt.grossell@house.mn.

Have a great summer!
