New Laws and Tours

Thursday, July 13, 2017

Friends,

I hope everyone had a fun and safe Independence Day. I also wanted to extend a thank you to everyone who came out for our town hall discussion we had at the end of June. If you missed it or want to watch it again, you can do so here

Since the end of session, I have had opportunity to visit with a number of local businesses and meet with many constituents to hear their concerns and answer questions about state government. On top of these visits, I have also had the opportunity, along with my colleagues, to tour a number of recently completed and potential construction projects around the state. It's wonderful to see these projects up close and personal to get an idea of what exactly is needed and what is being done.

New Laws

As mentioned previously, most new laws passed in 2017 went into effect on July 1st. You can view the complete list of new laws passed in 2017 here: New Laws 2017. Among those that I am most proud of include the immediate work we did to provide health care premium relief to thousands of Minnesotans and our strong investment in education.

Reminder: Capitol Grand Opening Celebration

After a $310 million restoration and four years of work, the Minnesota State Capitol is open to the public. To commemorate this special occasion and to invite Minnesotans back to the People’s House, there will be a Grand Opening Celebration held on August 11, 12, and 13. The celebration will have something for everyone – fireworks, concerts, demonstrations by the artisans that worked on the restoration, behind the scenes tours, and much more. Most of the events are free, or offered at a very low cost. Please mark your calendars and plan to celebrate the People’s House this summer!

On this day in History

Live Aid took place on this day in 1985. The famous concert was kicked off in London by Prince Charles and Princess Diana, and continued at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia and around the world. It was broadcast across the world, lasted 16 hours, and raised $125 million in famine relief for Africa. Read more here.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and ideas with me. You can schedule a time to meet with me in my office any time by calling me at 651-296-4192, or share your thoughts by emailing me at rep.regina.barr@house.mn.
