Legislative Update: Transportation Wins & Townhall

Monday, June 19, 2017

Friends,

Well it wouldn't be a Minnesota Spring/Summer without a shift from gorgeous to hot to dangerous and back to mild weather, all within a week. If you were on the receiving end of any damage during our recent storms, check out the Minnesota Commerce Department's tips here. I hope you are having a great start to summer and please do not hesitate to contact me if there is anything I can do or if you have any questions about State Government. This week's update highlights some of our bipartisan compromises to get a transportation package complete and announcement of a townhall next week. Have a great week!

Transportation victories this session

This session lawmakers and the governor came to an agreement on the single largest investment in roads and bridges in the last 10 years, all without raising taxes. In total, the plan invests $5 billion in transportation funding over the next 10 years. This will go a long way towards increasing safety and reduce traffic congestion that Minnesotans face every day.

For our area, Dakota County will receive a nearly $5 million increase in funding for road and bridges projects. Inver Grove Heights will receive more than $440,000, Mendota Heights will receive more than $150,000, and Eagan will receive more than $830,000 in new local street aid.

Also in the bonding bill there was funding included for a $1 million improvements to Broderick Boulevard in Inver Grove Heights. This was one of the top priorities for infrastructure improvements in our area.
