Capitol Update from Rep. Dan Fabian

Friday, May 5, 2017

Dear Neighbors,

Here is an update with the latest news from the Capitol.

Budget Negotiations

Conference committees including the Environment and Natural Resources Conference Committee on which I serve came to agreements early this week after setting joint targets on Friday. Now our hope is that Governor Dayton will join us to set three-way targets so we can continue to move forward in negotiations.

The great news is we are getting our work done, are ahead of schedule and have come to agreements in the Legislature. Now, we need the governor and his commissioners to do their part to work with us so we can get our final work done on time and pass a state budget that is in the best interest of Minnesota families, taxpayers and citizens.

I will keep you updated.

National Day of Prayer

Thursday was National Day of Prayer, where folks come together to pray for our nation. We held our event on the Capitol steps, and we were fortunate to have great turnout and great weather!

Bonding Bill Unveiled

On Monday, the House unveiled a $600 million capital investment package. More than 80 percent of all the projects funded in the bill pertain to roads and bridges, clean water infrastructure and asset preservation.

The first year of a biennium is typically not considered a bonding year, and our first focus is still passing a balanced and responsible state budget. But bonding may become part of final negotiations, and we wanted to ensure we are advocating for commonsense, vetted projects that are needed across the state.
