RELEASE: REP. ALBRIGHT PASSES MEDICATION ACCESS LEGISLATION

Thursday, May 4, 2017

ST. PAUL, MN—On Thursday, the Minnesota House of Representatives passed a bill, HF712, authored by Rep. Tony Albright, R-Prior Lake. The legislation allows for substitution by pharmacists for interchangeable biological products, in a similar fashion to current practice for the substitution of a generic drug for another drug. As biologics become more common, this legislation will make it easier for patients and providers to access generic medication.

The bill passed on a unanimous vote of 130-0.

“Medical technology is advancing, and this bill ensures patients will have access to more biologics as they come to the market,” said Albright. “I’m proud to pass this bill with unanimous support from both parties.”

Now passed by the House, HF712 heads to the Minnesota Senate.
