Conference Committees Begin Their Work

This week the House and Senate began to meet in conference committees to work out the differences between their respective budget bills. Our goal is to come to a compromise that limits government growth, provides meaningful tax relief, and invests in our shared priorities.

Additionally, we are hopeful that Governor Dayton and his commissioners will also be involved in negotiations during an open and transparent conference committee process. Speaker Daudt and I wrote a letter to Governor Dayton yesterday, agreeing to his request from last month that we set joint committee budget targets by next Friday, April 28. Doing so will help state leaders jumpstart into timely budget negotiations.

We all share the goal of passing a budget that best serves the people of Minnesota. I will keep you updated on budget negotiations as we continue to move nearer the end of session.

Premium Relief

It was announced this week that Minnesotans who purchase their own insurance and are eligible for the 25 percent premium subsidy will begin seeing that financial relief in May. The House worked diligently to make this a top priority at the beginning of session, and now Minnesotans across the state will see some relief from their skyrocketing health care premiums. People who are eligible will see the reduction in their bills and do not need to take any action.

Obamacare and MNsure have hurt thousands of people across the state, and premium relief was an important short-term remedy as we work toward long-term solutions that make health insurance more affordable and accessible for Minnesotans.

Community Events

The Knights of Columbus are sponsoring a Memorial Blood Drive at the Rogers Community Center on Saturday, April 22nd from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. Contact Dale Scherber at 763-428-5163 to make an appointment. Give blood and save a life!

The eighth annual Rogers Revue will be held at Word of Peace Church in Rogers on May 17th starting at 7:00 pm. The event raises funds for Rogers senior programs. The Revue is a showcase of local talent and is not a contest. So far several musical acts have been lined up but more acts are still needed. For more information contact Harold Trombley at 763-257-2956 or Michael Sahlen at 612-867-4627.

Peppin’s MinnTriv

Thank you to everyone who participated in last week’s MinnTriv Question. The question was: Duke from Cormorant, MN holds what leadership position in the town? The answer is Duke the dog has been elected Mayor of Cormorant for this third consecutive term.

Congratulations to Jason Boeck from Rogers for having the first correct response.

Here is this week’s question: What is Minnesota’s newest city?

Respond to this email with your answer, and you could be featured in next week’s email update!
