Legislative Update from Rep. Dario Anselmo

Friday, April 21, 2017

Dear Neighbor,

Here is an update from the Capitol.

Conference Committees Get to Work

Legislators returned to the Capitol this week and began work in conference committees where they will negotiate differences between House and Senate budget bills, working toward a final compromise. It is the intent of the Legislature to also work with Governor Dayton and his commissioners in an open and transparent conference committee process to come to a bipartisan budget agreement that best serves the people of Minnesota.

As we negotiate in the coming weeks on new budget targets, policy provisions, and funding essential needs across the state, I welcome you to contact me to share your input. I will be advocating for the people and priorities of Edina, working to increase funding for our schools, invest in transportation needs across the metro, and support policies that protect our environment. Please do not hesitate to reach out and share your thoughts. I am here to serve you!

Premium Relief Update

Legislative leaders and Governor Dayton came to a bipartisan agreement early this session, providing a 25 percent premium reduction for eligible Minnesotans who purchase health insurance on the individual market. Minnesotans should be seeing those reductions in their May health insurance bills which is great news for the thousands of families and small business owners who have been negatively impacted by high premium costs.

Premium reductions were an important first step to provide immediate relief, as we continue to craft policies that improve accessibility, lower costs and increase competition in our individual insurance market.

Edina Students

Students from Concord Elementary were visiting the Capitol this week. I hope they had a great time and enjoyed learning more about state government!

Saw some amazing presentations at the Edina High School Passion Project Fair on Wednesday. Morgan Mellum made a great case for protecting our pollinators!
