Capitol Update from Rep. Tama Theis

Thursday, April 20, 2017

Dear Neighbors,

Here is an update with the latest news from the Capitol.

Conference Committees

The House and Senate have now passed all of their respective budget bills, and this week, members of the Legislature were named to conference committees to work out differences between the various omnibus bills. Taxes, education, public safety, transportation and energy are among the issue areas being debated in the committees. Our goal is to come to a final compromise that works for both the House and Senate, as well as Governor Dayton.

Additionally, I wanted to share an update that a conference committee is also meeting to work out the Real ID bill. Our state must comply with federal Real ID mandates in order for a Minnesota-issued driver’s license to continue to be eligible as identification to board an airplane, as well as enter a military base or federal facility.

I will keep you updated on conference committee negotiations and budget bills as we continue to move through the legislative process.

Around the District

Last week, the Legislature was on break and I was able to be up in our district all week. I visited Athlos Academy, toured New Flyer, visited the McKinley Recovery School and attended the State of the City Address in Saint Cloud. It was great to be home and meet with folks up in our area!
