Legislative Update on Conference Committees

Thursday, April 20, 2017

Greetings from the Capitol:

I will be appearing on 'Your Legislators' on our local public TV station tonight (Thursday the 20th) at 8:00 PM. A repeat will be played at 9:30 AM on Sunday, April 23rd. Shows are also available to view online here.

Conference Committee:

I hope you had a blessed Easter and a relaxing holiday weekend. The House is back in session and conference committees have been named. Conference committees are made up of 5 State Representatives and 5 Senators. The committee’s job is to come to a compromise on the differing aspects of the House and Senate budget bills. After the conference committee finalizes the bill, it is then sent to the House and the Senate for a vote of each body before heading to the Governor’s desk for his consideration. I am hopeful that the Governor and his staff will be active during the conference committee process to avoid a chaotic end of session.

I have been appointed to serve on the conference committee for the Agriculture Omnibus Bill. Agriculture is so important for west central Minnesota and I look forward to the opportunity to represent our district in this unique capacity.

Constituent Visits:

On Wednesday, I had the pleasure of visiting with several teachers from District 12A. Brett Frafford-Olson: Wheaton Area Schools; Renee Fedderson and Cheryl Hirst: Breckenridge Area Schools; Michelle Dewey, Jessie Simon, Jody Brasel, Maggie Dahl, and Natalie Schoenbauer: West Central Area Schools.
