Drew's News: $1.35 Billion Tax Relief Bill Passes House

Friday, March 31, 2017

Friends,

This week the House passed four key budget bills: the tax bill, the environment bill, the transportation bill, and the education bill. I'm hard at work to make Minnesota an even better place to live, work, and raise a family.

Tax Bill - Come Together

On a bipartisan vote of 80-52 the House of Representatives passed the "Come Together Right Now" tax bill which I've co-authored. Our tax plan delivers $1.35 billion in relief and reform to the hardworking Minnesotans who built the large surplus the state government now enjoys. Seniors, students, and families are among the thousands of Minnesotans who will benefit from the House Republican tax plan that prioritizes relief for middle-class Minnesotans.

You can read more about the bill right here.  And I talk a little bit about the bill here.

Transportation Plan

On Friday, we took up debate on the Transportation Bill that will address the statewide need for roads and bridges by using existing resources, NOT raising taxes. In the next two years, we’re putting $2.1 billion toward our transportation needs with an emphasis on the roads and bridges used by Minnesotans each and every day.

The House transportation plan makes a significant and needed investment in Minnesota’s infrastructure. By prioritizing roads and bridges, which are used by all Minnesotans, we were able to invest $6 billion over 10 years without raising taxes.

As always, please continue to stay in touch to share your thoughts and ideas on the bills heard in committee and in session. You can schedule a time to meet with me in my office any time by calling my office at (651) 296-9463, or share your thoughts via email by emailing me at rep.drew.christensen@house.mn.

Have a great weekend,
